How this GST calculator works

Goods and Services Tax is charged on the value of a supply. This calculator works in two directions. To add GST, it takes a price before tax and applies the rate. To remove GST, it takes a tax-inclusive price, such as an MRP or invoice total, and works backwards to find the original price and the tax inside it.

Add GST: GST = Amount × Rate ÷ 100
Remove GST: Base = Amount ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100)

Current GST rates in India

Since 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall under three main slabs: 5% for many essentials, 18% for most other goods and services, and 40% for sin and luxury items. A 0% rate applies to exempt and nil-rated items. The older 12% and 28% slabs were largely removed. A small number of items carry special rates, so use the custom box if yours is one of them, and check the rate on your invoice or the GST portal.

CGST, SGST and IGST

When a sale happens within one state, the GST is split equally between the Centre (CGST) and the state (SGST, or UTGST in union territories). A sale between two states is charged as IGST, which equals the combined rate. The total tax is the same either way.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST from an inclusive price?

Divide the inclusive amount by (1 + rate/100) to get the price before GST, then subtract that from the inclusive amount to get the GST. Choose 'Remove GST' in the calculator to do this automatically.

What are the current GST slabs?

Most goods and services are taxed at 5%, 18% or 40%, with 0% for exempt items, under the structure in force since 22 September 2025. Some items have special rates.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

CGST and SGST each take half of the tax on a sale within a state. IGST is the full tax charged on a sale between states.

Can I use a rate that is not in the buttons?

Yes. Type any rate into the rate box and the result updates immediately.
